Crystal Gates

Director of Quality

Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does.”— William James

Crystal Gates, BS, CCRA, brings over 25 years of clinical research experience to RCA.

Crystal Gates is an accomplished clinical research executive and quality leader with more than 20 years of experience spanning sponsor, CRO, and investigative site environments. She returned to RCA Research in August 2026, bringing her career full circle after serving as one of the earliest employees of Vitreoretinal Consultants of Houston in 2005—the organization that later became Retina Consultants of Texas and now RCA Research.

Her leadership is defined by the ability to translate complex regulatory expectations into scalable quality frameworks, operational governance models, and inspection-ready systems. Crystal brings deep expertise in quality strategy, clinical operations, regulatory compliance, risk governance, monitoring oversight, data integrity, and sponsor-facing quality assurance across retina and ophthalmology, rare disease, neurology, cardiometabolic, respiratory, and other complex therapeutic areas.

Throughout her career, Crystal has held senior leadership positions with Clinical Trials Resource Group (CTRG), Quintiles (IQVIA), and PRA Health Sciences (ICON). At CTRG, she directed enterprise quality initiatives that supported ISO 9001 certification and recertifications, authored more than 70 standard operating procedures, and implemented a risk-based monitoring model that reduced onsite visits by 70% while preserving data quality and compliance standards.

Her foundation as a Clinical Research Associate informs a disciplined approach to monitoring oversight, audit readiness, source documentation, compliance escalation, and ICH-GCP execution. At PRA Health Sciences, she was selected as one of only six CRAs in North America to serve on a core team responsible for conducting quality assessment visits for peer monitors.

A multiple PharmaTimes Clinical Researcher of the Year winner, Crystal brings RCA Research a strategic focus on inspection readiness, operational excellence, sponsor confidence, and credible clinical research outcomes. Her return reflects a unique continuity between RCA Research’s founding roots and its continued commitment to quality, compliance, and patient-centered research.
